Health & Safety

  • We are committed to conducting our business in a manner that protects the health and safety of our employees, contractors and the community at large. To maintain a safe and healthy work environment, we continuously identify and evaluate all potential risks. This is of special importance for our workshop and off sites where welding works take place. Wherever needed, we shall develop countermeasures based on the principles of prevention. Another important tool to minimize risks is our internal incident reporting system.
  • To prevent accidents or their reoccurrence, we carefully review and analyze not only internal, but also external incidents. If necessary, we send HSSE alerts to all Saumah Metalworks branch offices/workshops nationwide to display and discuss with all employees.
  • Our system of regular internal and external health-and-safety audits monitor compliance and benchmark our standards. We hire highly experienced consultants for risk assessments at high-risk operations, such as liquid gas handling and storage. If needed, we quickly invest manpower, time and money for corrective actions and improvements. Our goal, always, is to stay a step ahead of what's needed.
  • We have a vital interest in the safe operation of machines and equipment in our workshops. Therefore, our company is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Welding which promotes continuous improvement in standards of design and operation in welding environments.

Security

  • Saumah Metalworks and Ornaments Ltd facilities store large volumes of valuable and potentially hazardous liquids. To prevent theft, vandalism and even terrorism, we continuously identify and analyze security threats. Based on this risk evaluation, each of our storage facilities is equipped with countermeasures that include fencing and physical security guards.
  • An important part of our security philosophy is the thorough training and supervision of all third parties (e.g. truck drivers, contractors, fitters etc) who work for us.

Environment

  • Protecting the environment is a high priority in all our activities. We monitor and continuously reduce our wastewater, air and noise emissions, as well as our waste generation. We are committed to the efficient and responsible use of energy and materials. All our activities comply with all applicable laws, regulations and ethical standards.
  • We focus our efforts on preventing environmental damage and on quickly, purposefully responding to emergency situations.
